Civilian Award Medal of Honor
Deputy County Manager Lisa Jackson was presented with the Civilian Award Medal of Honor from the Putnam County Fire and Rescue Department and Emergency Medical Services Department.
Ms. Lisa Jackson distinguished herself by acts of gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty while serving as the Deputy County Manager for the Putnam County Board of Commissioners.
In the late morning on January 16, 2019, Ms. Jackson headed out of the office toward the intersection of Highway 441 and N. Jefferson Ave when she noticed an elderly woman walking in the southbound lanes of traffic on Highway 441.
Ms. Jackson immediately abandoned her vehicle and ran headlong into the oncoming traffic without fear or regard for her personal well-being. As Ms. Jackson tried to protect the elderly woman, the elderly woman stumbled and was noticeably confused, cold and disoriented.
According to the elderly woman’s family, they were searching for her for 25 minutes and had no idea she headed down the highway. The elderly woman suffers from Alzheimer’s and left the house with only a light blanket draped around her shoulders on that forty-degree morning.
Ms. Jackson comforted and warmed the elderly woman and tried to establish her identity. Ms. Jackson and a passerby who witnessed what was happening secured and protected the elderly woman until help arrived. By her undaunted courage, bold initiative, leadership, and devotion to the citizens of Putnam County, Ms. Jackson’s selfless action reflects great credit upon her and upholds the highest traditions of public service.
We are very proud of you Lisa!!
