Solicitors/Canvassers Moratorium
The Board of Commissioners of Putnam County does hereby impose a moratorium of ninety (90) days, on the business activities of solicitors and/or canvassers, in order to maintain the status quo while County officials expeditiously undertake a review of the County’s business regulations. Solicitors and canvassers shall mean any person who solicits orders or appointments on behalf of himself/herself, a firm, corporation, company, association, partnership or individual for any goods, wares, services, or merchandise or other things of value, going from house to house or other premises. This is a temporary emergency measure and shall be in place only until such time as the Board of Commissioners have duly adopted a new or revised set of regulations or until the expiration of ninety (90) days, whichever comes first. Any solicitor and/or canvasser may continue to conduct business activities upon registration with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, who shall attain, at a minimum the following information: name of all individuals acting as solicitors and/or canvassers, physical address of such individuals, anticipated duration of business activities, and nature of business. The Sheriff shall not charge any fees associated with such registration and shall allow such operation following receipt of the above indicated information.
